The ADM baseball team pulled out a close 3-2 win over Carlisle last night to snap its two-game conference skid.
Junior lefty Sam Kornstad was dominant on the mound for the Tigers, as he threw a complete game four-hitter while surrendering just two earned runs and striking out nine.
ADM and Carlisle were tied 2-2 heading into the bottom of the sixth inning, but Grant Goeden hit a deep triple to center field to lead off the frame. His smash forced Carlisle to yank starter Anthony Hanson, and Goeden would score later in the inning on a wild pitch by reliever Peyton Stephens to give the Tigers a lead they would not relinquish.
Kornstad retired the Wildcats three up, three down in the top of the 7th to seal ADM’s win.
The Tigers will play in two games this afternoon against Earlham and Harlan at the Perry tournament.
Also in action last night was the ADM softball team. Rick Dillinger’s club beat Gilbert 10-0 and Madrid 9-0 as part of the Roland-Story Invitational. Pitching ace Molly Jacobsen threw a no-hitter in that win over Madrid.
The Tigers play in two more games today–they’ll take on tournament host Roland-Story and Ames High.
