The Greene County High School softball team went 3-0 on Saturday at the West Marshall tournament in State Center. Coach Tom Kennedy’s team is now 16-5 overall after winning 12-1 vs. Wilton, 13-4 over Des Moines Christian, and 9-1 against the host team from W. Marshall. All three games went the full seven innings with the Rams scoring 34 runs to six for the opponents. Greene County racked up 38 hits on the day..

Coach Kennedy told Raccoon Valley Radio his team jumped out to early leads in all three games. Marissa Promes pitched against Wilton and WM, while Makenzie Dennhardt pitched against DMC. Wilton entered Saturday with a season record of 11-9, while DMC was 7-7 and WM 8-10.

The game against Wilton saw the Rams score four runs in the first, sixth, and seventh innings. Greene County had 10 hits and also drew 10 walks. Kayla Mobley tripled, singled, and drove in three runs, while Marissa Promes had a double, two singles, and two RBI. Tressa Rasmussen and Bailey Godwin both singled twice and added one RBI, with Emily Christensen getting a single and driving in two runs. Emma Tilley also had one RBI.

Promes allowed one earned run on eight hits vs. Wilton. She had eight strikeouts and did not walk a batter.

A nine run first inning carries the Rams to a 13-4 victory vs. DMC as Greene County rolled up 16 hits. Marissa Promes had three singles and two RBI, while Emma Saddoris collected two doubles and one run batted in. Mobley doubled, singled, and had one RBI, while Rasmussen doubled, singled and batted in two runs. Emily Christensen and Carleigh Paup both singled twice, and Paup drove in a run. Koch and Hannah Promes each collected a base hit and each drove in two runs, and Hannah Onken had a single and one RBI.

Mackenzie Dennhardt allowed all four runs, three earned, on 11 hits and two walks. She had two strikeouts vs. the Lions.

The Greene County offense started quickly vs. WM as well with three runs in both the first and second innings. The Rams had two more runs in the fourth and one in the sixth. The lone run for the Trojans went on the board in the sixth inning. The Rams had 12 hits with three singles and two runs batted in for Christensen, and Mobley at a double, single, and two RBI. Koch added a pair of doubles, and Onken had two singles and three RBI. Rasmussen also knocked in a run, and Godwin, Saddoris, and Marissa Promes each singled.

Promes collected her second pitching win of the day by scattering seven WM hits. She issued one walk and had 10 strikeouts. The WM run was unearned.

The Rams are at Colfax vs. Colfax-Mingo on Monday night in Heart of Iowa Activities Conference play. Greene County is 10-2 in conference games and tied with PCM (Monroe) for first place, but the Tigerhawks will likely present a challenge to the Ramsk. They are 8-2 in the conference and  none of Coach Kennedy’s previous seven teams have won in Colfax.
