At 10:05am, the Greene County Sheriff’s office, the Greene County Emergency Medical Services, the Jefferson Police Department and the Jefferson Fire Department responded to a one-vehicle accident on the Highway 4 bridge south of Jefferson.

Deputy Shane Monthei says a male driver was heading south when he reportedly fell asleep and flipped his Chevrolet Trailblazer upside down in the west embankment of the North Raccoon River.

Monthei notes that the victim was wearing his seatbelt and wasn’t thrown from his vehicle.  Once the fire department extracted him from the Trailblazer, he was Life Flighted to Iowa Methodist Hospital in Des Moines with non-life threatening injuries.

He talks about what each agency did after they responded to the 911 call from the Trailblazer’s On-Star.

“We utilized the Jefferson Police Department, they assisted with traffic control.  The (Jefferson) Fire Department helped extract the driver from the vehicle as did Greene County EMS helped with the assist of the driver.  Everybody worked together quite well.”

The individual’s name has not been released pending family notification.
