West Central Valley WildcatWhile West Central Valley’s new athletic complex is now back to acceptable competition standards, the school district is playing a “wait and see” game.

Superintendent Dr. David Arnold released a statement earlier this week saying he and his school board want to see what happens to the field during a “normal” winter before any definitive measures are taken to fix the problems that emerged this past winter.  Arnold explains why he’s content with where things stand right now.

“I’m glad everything went back down, I’m just anxious to see another winter, hopefully a normal winter, so that we can see what type of heaving we get.  You get some (heaving) no matter what winter you have.  The ground freezes and it will shift a little bit, but nothing like we had last year and we anticipate not having that again… time will tell.”

Though the heaving and divoting issues at the new football field and track caused a great headache for the district, site contractors, architects and even West Central Valley athletes, Arnold says filing a lawsuit has not been considered at this time.

“It’s too early for anything like that, but that’s why you want to wait another year to see if (the problems) develop again.  If they do, let’s say on a normal year, then you have other types of issues. Right now, we’ve agreed we’re going to extend (the warranty) and we’ll see how the winter goes through.”
