Fresh off the school’s first Raccoon River Conference Championship in 10 years, the Perry baseball team will look to keep the momentum going tonight when they play RRC foe Bondurant Farrar in a 3A District opener in Adel at 5:00. The Bluejays finished the regular season 23-6 and co-champions of the RRC with a mark of 10-4. Perry shut out Bondurant Farrar twice during the season winning 7-0 and 4-0. The Fighting Bluejays of Bondurant enter tonight’s matchup 7-20 and 2-12 in RRC play. However, Bondurant Farrar is playing their best baseball right now having won 6 of their last 8 games including the season finale Wednesday at Carroll.
“I’m worried, added Perry Coach Mike Long. “Bondurant is a good team and they have a couple of guys who can hit and they play good defense. You get into these games where your the favorite and the longer you let the team hang in there, the more bounces and breaks go their way. You see it happen all the time. I told our guys we have to try to score two or three early and jump on them early in the game.”
The Bondurant Farrar offense has been quiet this year hitting only 250 as a team and scoring just 102 runs in 27 games. The Jays have been shut out eight times this year. Perry junior Will Whiton is expected to get the start tonight for Perry. Whiton is 5-0 with 5 saves on the year . Shawn Kenney will have the play by play at 445 tonight on KDLS and www.raccoonvalleyradio.com.
