The high school baseball season ended for the Greene County Rams on Friday night at Jim Goeser Field in Harlan with a 3-0 loss to sixth ranked Harlan Community. The Cyclones won the Class 3A District 15 game by scoring all three runs in the bottom of the fourth inning. Losing pitcher Riah Nelsen had limited Harlan to no runs on just one hit until the fourth, but the Cyclones put together four hits, two walks, and a throwing error, to take a lead the Rams would not threaten.

Nelsen went the first 3-2/3 innings and allowed two earned runs on five hits and four walks. He struck out three batters. Reliever Colton Fitzpatrick went the final 2/13 innings and did not allow a run. He gave up one hit, one walk, and he hit a batter. Fitzpatrick had two strikeouts.

The Rams had five hits, all singles, off winning pitcher Brett Croghan, who fanned 11 Rams while walking none. Senior Wes Tipton and junior Alex Rasmussen each singled twice, with Nelsen collecting one base hit.

An unusually high number of base runners were caught on the base paths. Harlan lost four runners and Greene County two. Included in the six outs were a caught stealing, two pick offs, two runners being caught between bases, and one over running a bag.

Greene County ends the season with a record of 11 wins and 15 losses. Harlan is 23-8 and the Cyclones remain on their home diamond to face Carroll in the Monday night District 15 title game. The Tigers nipped Denison-Schleswig 7-6, also in Harlan on Friday night.

Tipton and right fielder Zach Fouch are the only seniors on the Greene County team.
