Any Greene County children entering kindergarten this fall are invited to attend a free safety camp event at the Greene County Community Center in Jefferson.
Director Vicky Lautner says the camp will cover a variety of topics such as bus, bicycle, car, electrical, pool, drugs and alcohol, stranger, railroad, fire, telephone and animal safety. She points out that the Jefferson Elks Lodge is once again sponsoring this free event.
Lautner talks about how important is it for kids to get a foundation for different types of safety as they begin school.
“If we can give them some safety tips, I know one of the things that they talk about is having the parents walk to school with the child. And that way the child’s more comfortable when it comes to the first day of school if they have to go by themselves. So hopefully we’re providing some safety details for these kids as they start off to school.”
The child must turn five by September 15th, 2014. It will be from July 28th through the 31st from 9-11am. Space is limited so call 386-3412 or stop by the rec center in Jefferson to sign up.
