The 2nd Annual Grand Junction Lincoln Highway Day is coming up this Saturday and there’s a full day of events for everyone to enjoy.
Pierre Kellogg says a new event kicks-off the day with a poker run for cars and motorcycles from 10am-2pm with registration from 9-10am at the city park with a $15 fee. Stops include 209 Main Restaurant in Paton, the Iron Saddle in Dayton, Ogden’s The Lucky Pig and Ferg’s Restaurant in Grand Junction. Half of the entry fee will go the Grand Junction Lion’s Club and half will go to the person with the best and worst poker hands.
At 1pm a two-crust pie baking contest will take place at the United Methodist Church. Kellogg points out that anyone can enter the contest with judging to begin at 1:30pm. The winning pie will be auction off with the rest being donated to the Methodist Church’s ice cream social that’s from 6-7:30pm that night.
The annual parade will be at 2pm on Main Street with entries to line up at 14th Street by the softball diamond. Kellogg notes that you can show up that day for the parade and they will let you in. Some of the free afternoon attractions includes free swimming at the city’s swimming pool and both the Kennedy and Lincoln Highway Museum will be open for free.
Kellogg adds that some of the other afternoon activities includes the one-act play “Hurry Up and Wait” by the Off-The-Track-Players at 2:30pm and 4:30pm at the Presbyterian Church, from 2:30-4pm will be the East Greene athletic apparel sale at the tennis courts with all proceeds to go to the community center fund and the Horizons Club.
