Today is semifinal day at the 2014 State Softball Tournament north of Ft. Dodge at Rogers Sports Complex. The Greene County Rams play in the last of the 10 semifinals when they take on third rated Clarke (Osceola) at 7:30 p.m. in a Class 3A contest. Defending champion and ninth ranked Bondurant-Farrar and second rated East Marshall (Le Grand) meet int he other 3A semi at 7 p.m. The third place game is Friday at 1:30 p.m. and the 3A title contest is at 2:30 p.m. on Friday.
This is the first state tournament trip for any Jefferson-based high school softball team while Clarke finished in second place last year to B-F. Coach Tom Kennedy’s Rams are 28-7 and have won 16 of their last 18 games. Included are six wins in a row and victims on the tournament trail include eleventh ranked East Sac County (Lake View), tenth ranked Sergeant Bluff-Luton, number four Sioux Center, and sixth ranked Center Point-Urbana. The Rams were 2-0 winners over the Stormin’ Pointers on Monday in the state quarterfinals. Clarke has won 18 of its last 18 with the lone loss in that stretch to Class 5A Urbandale. The Lady Indians hammered Spirit Lake in Monday’s quarterfinals by a 13-0 score in just three innings.
