Everyone is invited to take a trip back through time this weekend to the beginnings of steam powered equipment at the 15th Annual Old-Fashioned Threshing Bee.
Organizer Nick Foster says people can enjoy watching oats being harvested by steam and gas powered equipment from the early days of farming until the 1940’s.
The threshing demonstration times are at 10am and 2pm this Saturday and 1pm and 3pm on Sunday. There will also be an antique tractor and truck show both days at Pleasant Prairie Farms at 1176 M Avenue in Jefferson.
Foster points out that the Four County Tractor Ride will take place at 8am on Sunday and one of the main events is a steam plowing show at 4pm on Saturday. He states that they have four actual steam powered engines with the original parts that were the first to break the prairie ground in Greene County from 1913. He adds that this show is one-of-a-kind to not miss out.
Plus, there will be a free meal and bluegrass musical entertainment at 6pm on Saturday.
Other sponsoring groups include RVP-1875, Greene County Historical Society and the Four County Tractor Club along with Pleasant Prairie Farms.
Head west 1 mile from the intersections of Iowa Highway 4 and US Highway 30, then its 1 1/4 mile north on M Avenue.
