ADM Coach Jason BookThe Adel-DeSoto-Minburn baseball season didn’t enjoy as much success as they did last year but head coach Jason Book is hopeful for more progression.

The 2013 season set the school record for most wins with 29 and this year’s season ended with a 19-14 record.  Book points to inconsistency in the batting order as part of the reason why they didn’t get as many wins as they would’ve liked.

“We just couldn’t consistently keep putting it together night in and night out, which was frustrating for us.  But it’s one of those things that we’ll deal with and we’ll keep working hard to progress.”

Losing two-time all-conference senior Grant Goeden who led the team in batting average, hits, triples, RBI’s and stolen bases will be tough, but Book is looking to other players such as junior Sam Kornstad for not only offense but for pitching as well.

The left hander was the team’s workhorse on the mound with a 4-4 record, tied for most wins on the pitching staff, team leader in earned-run-average with 1.75 and strikeouts with 46.

Book talks about not using Kornstad more this season due to developing other pitchers.

“We could’ve probably thrown him a little bit more than we did but we have a lot of pitchers that need to throw.  We’re also thinking about the future.  He has a bright career in front of him beyond high school, and I don’t want to burn out any shoulder or elbow or anything that’s going to cut that short.”

Overall, Book was happy with the progress and adds that his players are anxious for next season to begin.
