The State Baseball Tournament continues at Principal Park in Des Moines through Saturday, but the 2014 high school football season looms just around the corner. Greene County will be conducting football camps August 4-5-6 for youngsters in grades three through 12 at the high school in Jefferson. Official practice for high school teams in Iowa begins on Monday, August 11.
Dean Lansman is the head coach of the Rams and he is also the Activities Director. Lansman told Raccoon Valley Radio he is hopeful the number of players in grades 9-12 is closer to 70 this year, rather than around 60 a season ago. He also said he’s been pleased with the work the returning players have done in the weight room and elsewhere to prepare for the upcoming season.
Greene County will host Panorama (Panora) in a scrimmage on Friday, August 22 at 7 p.m. at Linduska Field in Jefferson. The regular season opens on Friday, August 22 at 7 p.m. at Linduska Field vs. non-district opponent South Central Calhoun (Lake City). The Titans and Rams have both been 2A programs in recent seasons, but Greene County moves up to 3A while SCC goes down a class to 1A.
