The State Baseball Tournament is underway this week down in the capital city in Des Moines, and unfortunately for the Perry Bluejays are not part of the 3A festivities this year. Perry is coming off an outstanding regular season that saw them share the Raccoon River Conference Championship with Winterset, finishing 10-4 in conference play and 23-7 overall. However Perry lost in the first round to Bonderant Farrar in District play. But that loss didn’t overshadow that the success that the Jays enjoyed. Head Coach Mike Long talks about if he was surprised by the type of year Perry had. “I thought we could be pretty good it just depended on how good our pitching was, I didn’t know how good our pitching was going to be, I didn’t know how consistent our hitting was going to be all season. I knew that we play pretty good defense most of the time but those other two you just can’t you just don’t know for sure how that’s going to end up being as the season goes on. But I think at times we’ve hit the ball really well and I think for the most part we pitched really well for this season.” The Bluejays lose seven Seniors of this years Conference Championship squad.
