The Adel-DeSoto-Minburn football team is getting ready for its 2014 fall campaign with team camps this week, but head coach Mike Wishner says they had opportunities all summer long.
Aside from strength training in the weightroom, Wishner points out several summer camps that some of his players attended this year.
They’ve held team camps once a week since the beginning of June which players get together on their own and run drills and work on offensive and defensive plays. Other camps have been 7-on-7 camps at Marshalltown also in June and another one at Lincoln High School in Des Moines last month for 9th-12th graders.
12 players attended the high school player development camp at Camp Dodge with some of the Iowa Barnstormer coaches and players and most recently a three-day team camp at Central College in Pella where 26 ADM players went up against various schools around the state in scrimmages.
Wishner talks about additional learning his players receive by participating in the summer workouts and camps.
“It’s great for the kids. Just another opportunity to work together as a team and while we’re there, I have leadership meetings with my seniors and we work on what kind of a teammate do you want to be, things of that nature and how you want to treat others and I think it’s a great experience for the kids that go.”
This week, ADM provides team camps for 7th-12th grades starting today through Friday along with a youth camp for grades 3rd-6th. The high school’s first official practice begins Monday, August 11th.
