perry signCompletion of the parking lot rehabilitation project at the McCreary Community Building is one that many local residents looked forward to.  The Perry City Council approved the final change order, pay request and acceptance of the project at this week’s meeting but there are still a few things that need to be done.

City Administrator Butch Niebuhr says the first few things that still need to be done are the result of issues found during construction.

“They had two or three panels that were cracked that will need replaced.  We’re having trouble with one bioswale that doesn’t seem to want to take in the water and perk it out like it should, so they’re having to address that” says Niebuhr.

And the recently approved change order was for the cost of additional concrete.

“Our sidewalk system didn’t connect the McCreary to the rest of the city, it didn’t come across the street.  So we did some extra sidewalk work in that area and then to the northeast of the parking lot. There’s a kiosk there talking about the McCreary’s and their donation to the city to actually build the McCreary Center back when, and that sidewalk was getting tore up and was low, and it was always a collector for mud and water whenever the parking lot would drain so we had some cement work we had to do there.”

Though the project has been accepted, Niebuhr says that doesn’t mean Jensen Builders is done working.  They are still obligated to finish the punch list for the project.
