The Adel City Council will meet in regular session this evening and a long agenda awaits them.
There are three public hearings on the agenda. The first is in regards to the contract and estimated cost for the Community Development Block Grant façade project. The second is in regards to a proposed amendment to the City’s Urban Revitalization Plan that would extend the residential tax abatement to 2025 instead of allowing it to expire at the end of 2016. And the third public hearing is for the sale of right of way on Rapids and 18th Streets.
Two people are expected to speak during the public comment portion of the meeting with JoAnn Spear expressing a complaint about the burning ordinance and Cathy Blome with Home Care Services explaining her complaint about the City’s lease with Al Dente Coffee and their private parking spaces.
Other agenda items include an update on renovating the Island Park shelter house, approval of fiscal year 2015 non-union city employee wages, approval of a construction contract with Cornerstone for the Main Street and adoption of an amendment to the Urban Revitalization plan.
The Council will then consider a change order and payment for the water main loop and sanitary sewer extension, discuss possible demolition of the old Adel pool, consider a hot mix asphalt reconstruction agreement with McClure Engineering and consider approving a loading zone space and signage for Homecare Services.
Additional agenda items include consideration of “car only” parking between the entrance to Farm Bureau and Prairie Street, discussion on paving the secion of Meadow Road near the aquatic center and possible no parking signs on the Boulevard.
The Council will then discuss the possibility of having the Region XII Council of Governments send out a survey to gauge the amount of interest in a CDBG Owner Occupied Housing Rehabilitation Grant, consider holding a strategic planning session with the Adel Partners Chamber of Commerce and the Economic Development Corporation, set a public hearing in regards to rezoning requests and possible action on selecting an executive search firm to help with the city administrator hiring process.
The meeting starts at 6pm at the Adel City Hall.
