Doug HawnScranton resident Doug Hawn was recently inducted into the 4-H Hall of Fame at the Iowa State Fair.

The award is given to a nominated volunteer, community leader or Extension staff member who has demonstrated outstanding service and dedication to the 4-H youth program.  Each county can nominate one individual or a couple for the award.  Last year, Jefferson’s Steve and Julie Karber were inducted.

Hawn has been serving as Greene County Fair Board secretary for 32 years and dedicates hundreds of volunteer hours every year to prepare for the County fair.  He also donates his farm equipment and sound system during the fair and created the spreadsheet and databases that are used for 4-H exhibit results and helps run the auction at the end of the County fair.

His farm, Hawn Family Farms, is also one of the four major donors that contributes money to help reduce 4-H’ers expenses for activities through the Greene County 4-H Foundation.

He was honored with the Greene County Impact Award earlier this year which is given to someone who contributes to the community and is recognized by others.

Hawn was inducted into the 4-H Hall of Fame at a ceremony in the 4-H Exhibits building on the State fairgrounds this past Sunday.
