The high school football season is nearly here for the Greene County Rams and other teams around the state. Coach Dean Lansman’s Rams host South Central Calhoun (Lake City) on Friday at 7 p.m. in Jefferson at Linduska Field. Coverage on KG98 begins at 6:15 p.m. Friday. Both teams went 5-5 last season and both were Class 2A playoffs qualifiers. The Titans have moved down a class in size to 1A while the Rams have gone up a class to 3A. Friday’s contest is of the non-district variety.

Neither team has all that many seniors with a dozen for the Rams and 10 for the Titans. One of the seniors for Greene County is Jordan Challen, a returning starter at defensive corner. Challen told Raccoon Valley Radio he’s looking forward to his senior season and he recognizes his role as a senior leader. “I definitely need to step it up a little bit and fill in the leadership role. Hopefully I can do that and we’ll do well this year.”
