The high school cross-country season for the Greene County Rams is scheduled to start at 5 p.m. today in Ames for the Gilbert Invitational. Over 20 cross-country programs are scheduled for the coed event, and hopefully the weather will cooperate. Rain is in the forecast, at least for parts of today on the Iowa State University course, where the meet is held. This meet was not held in 2013 due extremely high heat.
The Greene County girls are ranked seventh in Class 3A in the preseason ratings from the Iowa Association of Track Coaches. The Rams graduated the number one and number seven runners from the squad that placed ninth in the girls’ state meet last November. However, the numbers two through six girls and most of the boys that ran varsity in 2013 return.
Several other girls and boys squads in the field in Ames also appear in the preseason rankings.
