The Greene County Board of Supervisors met yesterday in regular session.
The Supervisors approved the contract for $61,186 to Vosberg Enterprises, Incorporated and a notice to proceed for them to clean out a ditch in Drainage District 33.
The Board set October 6th for a public hearing for several budget amendments including making their first pay installment for the Scranton Manufacturing building expansion project of $1,700, using Federal Emergency Management Agency funds for the conversation department and using general funds to make repairs to the courthouse.
The Board agreed to make necessary repairs to two stain glass domes on the roof of the courthouse. After observation was made by The Stain Glass Store in Des Moines, several safety hazards were brought up on the domes on top of the rotunda and the courtroom.
The Supervisors also approved the County Recorder’s report of fees for August of $5,342.38 and the County Treasurer’s investment report of $4,956,728.77 for August along with the driver’s license report of issuing 314 last month.
The Board also heard a City of Jefferson update with City Administrator Mike Palmer. He said that the City has ordered four metal benches that will be placed around the downtown square soon, crews will also take the flower baskets off around the square after the first frost of the year and noted that Hy-Vee, Incorporated has been working on the foundation for the new location on West Washington Street with McFarland Clinic possibly locating in an attached facility.
The Board discussed the topic of establishing a sign to let people know that there will be free children’s admission to the Mahanay Bell Tower for the rest of this year and all of 2015. Bell Tower Community Foundation President Carole Custer requested to put a sign on the glass entry doors, notifying the public that they will continue to offer free children’s admission to the Bell Tower through 2015 with the donation by Jefferson Telecom. After much discussion, the Supervisors decided to allow for a sign to be hung on the inside of the glass door.
