Greene Co. 4-HGreene County 4-H’ers are reminded to turn in their record books soon for this year’s awards ceremony in November.

Greene County ISU Extension 4-H and Youth Coordinator Sarah Jo Reynolds says record books are documentation of an entire year’s worth of activities and events that an individual 4-H’er participated in.

When a 4-H’er turns in their record book, they can also apply for awards as well.  Reynolds notes that there are participation and project awards at every 4-H grade level with outstanding and honorable mention awards for overall record book keeping.  Plus, there is a new award for junior 4-H’ers called, the 4-H Junior Spark Award.

She states that any senior 4-H’er, club leader, 4-H volunteer or Extension Council member can nominate a junior 4-H’er that they feel exemplifies and shows passion toward the 4-H program over the course of the year.  The new award was created by the 4-H Youth Development Committee.

Reynolds adds that she’s really excited to see who turns in record books and talks about those numbers improving every year.

“For the 2012 4-H award ceremony we had 50 record books get turned in and then last year for the 2013 year, we had 60 (record books).  So we had a large jump and we really hope to see that again.  We’re really excited to see all the record books that come in and see all the hard work that the kids have done all year long.”

The deadline to turn in record books is by Monday, September 15th to the Extension office in Jefferson.
