All Greene County 8-17 year-olds are invited to the fourth annual Youth Shooting Sports Day this weekend.

Organizer Dean Ross says there will be six stations that participants will rotate on a 45-minute schedule.  The stations include rifle and black powder shooting, archery, trap shooting, shotgun shooting, trapping demonstrations and geotracking.

Lunch will be provided by the Greene County Pheasants Forever and all equipment necessary for the event will also be provided.

Sponsors for the annual outdoor youth day include National Wild Turkey Federation, Ducks Unlimited, Greene County Pheasants Forever, Iowa Department of Natural Resources, Greene County Sportsman Club, Greene County Conservation Board and the Greene County Peace Officers.

Ross comments that they encourage young people to enjoy the outdoors and get back in touch with nature while also learning about firearm safety and recognizing traps that may be in the woods to avoid any possible injuries when coming across them.

He points out that participants must have an adult accompany them for the day.

There are 30 youngsters signed and more can be added by calling Ross at 515-386-4402 and walk-ins are welcomed.

It will be at Slinginger Woods from 10am-4pm on Saturday, September 13th with registrations to begin at 9:30am.
