Class 3A fifth ranked Nevada was a volleyball winner in three sets on Thursday night over Greene County at the middle school gym in Jefferson. Scores were 15-25, 23-25, 15-25, as the Cubs improved to 3-0 in Heart of Iowa Activities Conference action and 7-2 overall. The Rams fell to 1-1 both overall and in league play.
The first set was tied 2-2 before a 10-0 run put the Cubs in front 12-2, and that 10-point cushion held up. The second set was one the Rams had an opportunity to get in the win column. Greene County led 5-1, but Nevada came back for a lead of 9-8. Then the Rams surged ahead 17-10 before the Cubs made it 17-14. Greene County increased the lead to 21-15, but Nevada won by scoring 15 of the last 21 points. The third set saw the Rams trail the entire way except for a 3-3 tie.
Greene County plays in Eldora tomorrow at the South Hardin tournament.
