The ADM football Tigers suffered a gut-wrenching loss on Friday night, as they opened up district play with a 7-6 defeat to the rival Dallas Center-Grimes Mustangs during homecoming weekend in Adel.

The Tigers (1-2, 0-1 District) were not without their chances to win the ballgame, however, but turned the ball over six times. Junior quarterback Frank Weiland threw for nearly 300 yards and a touchdown but tossed four interceptions as well, three to DCG’s Trey Washington. Meanwhile, Jonathan Reel fumbled the ball twice, once on a punt return and another after a catch and run of about 15 yards.

On the bright side, the Tigers’ defense stood tough all night long, allowing just a first-half touchdown. ADM finally got on the board midway through the third quarter on Weiland’s eight-yard strike to Jake Sloss, but Reel missed the extra point.

Sloss had a monster night, piling up over 200 yards receiving and coming through with several clutch catches on 3rd and 4th and long. One of those big catches came during ADM’s penultimate drive of the ballgame, with the tigers backed up near their own goal line and facing a 4th and 18.

After Weiland threw his fourth pick, ADM’s defense against forced a punt, which Reel returned to the Mustangs’ 40-yard line with six seconds remaining. But Weiland wasn’t able to get a throw off on the final play of the ballgame, and was shoved out of bounds at the 30 as time expired.

Up next for ADM is a road trip to Atlantic. We’ll have the call on KKRF 107.9 FM and raccoonvalleyradio.com.
