The ADM Tigers picked up their first win in district play Friday at Atlantic, dispatching the Trojans, 17-7, at the Trojan Bowl.

The teams traded punts for most of the first quarter as neither offense could gain any traction. Then midway through the second quarter, the Tigers’ offense started to heat up via the pass game. After quarterback Frank Weiland hit senior receiver Joe sloss on a slant pattern that brought ADM into Atlantic territory, Weiland found Sloss for a 30-yard bomb down the far sideline. Sloss caught his defender on a double move, Weiland executed a beautiful pump fake to freeze the defense, and then hit Sloss in stride for the touchdown.

Jonathan Reel’s extra point was good, giving the Tigers a 7-0 lead with 6:05 to go in the second quarter. It was the first time ADM (2-2, 1-1) had the lead in a ballgame since Week 1 vs. Perry.

After another stop by the ADM defense, Weiland and company drove down inside the Trojans 20 yard before settling for a 26-yard field goal from Reel with 2:21 to go in the first half. It was Reel’s first field goal of the season, and gave the Tigers a 10-0 lead heading into halftime.

Weiland found Joe’s brother Jake Sloss with 6:41 to go in the 3rd quarter for a 37-yard touchdown. Weiland hit Sloss on a 5-yard out route, and Sloss outran his man down the sideline for his team-leading third touchdown reception of the season.

It was quite a bounceback performance for Weiland, who threw two touchdowns and no interceptions after throwing four picks a week ago. The defense, meanwhile, allowed just a fourth-quarter touchdown to the Trojans and thwarted off several additional attempts by Atlantic to crawl closer in the games final minutes.

The Tigers continue district play next Friday with a home game against Winterset at 7:30 pm.
