The City of Perry has been awarded a grant from the Federal Aviation Administration that will pay for ninety percent of the apron rehabilitation project at the Perry Municipal Airport.
City Administrator Butch Niebuhr says being able to complete this project at the airport is a huge step in improving the facilities.
“This is pretty much all of the apron from the runway to the taxiway, to the terminal to get fuel, to the hangars. So it does everything except the taxiways that connect to the hangars, which we did a lot of work on a couple years ago. This is a big step for us and is the main step before we start looking at reconstruction of the runways” says Niebuhr.
Niebuhr says it looks like they won’t be able to break ground on the project this fall and instead it will be started in the spring.
The FAA will end up paying the City of Perry nearly $628,000 for the project.
