The Greene County High School cross-country teams will be spectators for tonight’s Homecoming football game at Linduska Field in Jefferson once the ball is kicked off. Prior to kickoff, the runners have a job to do. They’ll actually deliver the game ball to the referee with team Captains from Greene County and Humboldt observing at the 50-yard line. The football teams will be on their respective sidelines and the Homecoming crowd will be watching as well.

Kelly Simpson is the coach of both the girls and boys teams. He started having the team run a relay race with a football from Scranton to Linduska Field in 2005, a distance of approximately 10 miles. Today, the team has a much shorter distance to travel; from the north end zone to midfield. Coach Simpson said, “I was training for a marathon back then, so I ran the entire distance, and so did some of the kids.”

Kickoff between Humboldt and Greene County is at 7:30 p.m. with coverage on KG98 starting at 6:45 p.m.
