Greene County area residents are invited to the first-ever “cemetery walk” hosted by the Greene County Historical Society.
Member Chuck Offenburger says the event will feature six historic notable figures from the County that will played by local actors and actresses.
The six iconic people include Judge Robert M. Rippey who was born in 1828 and ordered the building of the first county courthouse and built the first frame house in Jefferson. He will be played by Curt Nelson. Azor Mills will be portrayed by Rob Hoyt. Azor was the county’s first teacher and was born in 1827.
The next portrayal will be by Emily Hoyt as Miranda Mills. Mills was the long-time president of the Women’s Relief Corps and she was born in 1844. David Milligan was born in 1840 and formed a large grain and lumber business in the county. He will be portrayed by Darren Jackson.
Nicole Friess-Schilling will play Addie Milligan who was an active Friday Club member and died in 1920 on a Pullman train in Montana. Finally, Captain Albert Head will be portrayed by Alan Robinson and he served in the Civil War and he was also a banker, lawyer, state legislator and president of Drake University. Head was born in 1838.
Attendees should meet at the historical building at 3pm on the Greene County Fairgrounds and buses will take you to and from the Jefferson City Cemetery, Following the walk will be a chili feed and live musical entertainment back at the fairgrounds at 5pm.
In case of rain or cold weather, the cemetery portrayals will be performed in the historical society’s fairgrounds building.
Tickets for the first-ever event are $10 and can be purchased by any historical society member.
