Guthrie Center Main Street Accomplished A Lot In 2014
Guthrie Center Main Street had its fifth meeting with representatives from Main Street Iowa to go over its accomplishments from this year and set goals for 2015.
Program Director Julie Bailey says the meeting went well and believes they have accomplished many things through their first year as a Main Street program.
She states that the economic restructuring committee has established a database of all the buildings and businesses in the City and the organizational committee has collected 94% of its pledges for the year for its three-year fund drive.
The bulk of the accomplishments have come from the promotions committee which worked with the Guthrie Center Chamber during this past summer’s sidewalk sale and they sold cinnamon rolls during the county fair parade. Bailey talks about a project next May that the promotions committee is working on.
“Community festival on May 1st of 2015 because it happens to be Guthrie Center’s Zip Code Day. The zip code for Guthrie (Center) is 50115 and that translates to May 1st, 2015.”
As for the design committee, they’ve helped with the downtown area planters and are working on new design standards for businesses.
Bailey is excited for what Guthrie Center Main Street can accomplish for 2015.
