We’ve all heard the famous words by Ronald Reagan portraying dying Notre Dame great George Gipp before, “Win just one for Gipper”. Well, one of Gipp’s Fighting Irish teammates who he was speaking to, Buck Shaw, played high school football in Stuart, Iowa, and award-winning football author and historian Jim Lefebvre has written a book about it, and knows a lot about that story. But before he went into that, he needed to explain how Buck Shaw made it from small town Stuart, all the way to the mighty ND, and it’s not what you would expect, “In Buck Shaw’s case, maybe the primary reason for wanting to go to Notre Dame wasn’t football, but track & field–he was an medal winning shot putter.”
We sat down with Jim Lefebvre and got the whole story about Buck Shaw’s incredible journey from Stuart, to Notre Dame, to the National College Football Hall of Fame, and we’ll share it Thursday morning on Let’s Talk Guthrie County.
