2014 Jefferson Parks and Rec BoardThe Jefferson Parks and Recreation Board met yesterday.

The Board discussed various projects on its capital improvement list which is divided into parks, the Greene County Community Center, swimming pool and cemetery.  JPRD Director Vicky Lautner said she would continuously provide updates to the list for the Board to prioritize for what needs to be handled sooner than other projects.  Some of the bigger projects includes repairing the trail at Daubendiek Park, replacing the gym lights to LED’s inside the rec center and painting the entire swimming pool and making repairs to the inside of it.

The Board approved to purchase a pool heater from ACCO Unlimited Corporation in Johnston for $2,821.25 with funds to be used from the pool budget.  The other two items for the pool to be replaced are a lifeguard chair for $2,420.15 and the handicap ladder for $3,230.29 was discussed and tabled until next fiscal year.

During a discussion about other pool maintenance items that were suggested by Jefferson City Engineer John Milligan, the Board decided to put together a group of residents and board members to do some of the items in the spring before the pool opens next year.

Board member Sam Harding reported that since student enrollment in the construction class at Greene County High School is back up to a level where they can continue the program in the second and third trimesters that the school would be willing to help to build a new concession stand at the softball field on Lincoln Way.

A few items were discussed for possibilities to be proposed for the Hess Fund.  Two different options for a treadmill were presented from Nova Fitness Equipment in Omaha, Nebraska.  Both are models of Cybex and one was for $4,605 and another one was for $4,995.  There was also a Concept 2 Rower on the list for $890.  A vote for what items to be considered for the Hess Fund is expected at next month’s meeting.
