Jefferson LibraryOctober is a busy month at the children’s department of the Jefferson Public Library.

Children’s Librarian Terry Clark says not only do they have weekly trivia contests and scavenger hunts that youth can get involved with in October, but they will be also their big Halloween celebration on Thursday, October 30th.

From 5-7pm, kids and parents can wear their costumes and stop by the library for coloring sheets and crafts and be entered into drawings for prizes.  Plus, Clark adds, parents and kids can see their skit based off a book called “That is NOT a Good Idea!” by Mo Willems.  It is a picture book that won a Caldicott Medal by the Association for Library Service to Children for the most distinguished American picture book for children.

The story is involves a hungry fox, a plump goose, and her baby geese.  Clark points out that the skit is the major highlight of the evening every year during Halloween.

“We think its fun to bring the books to life for the kids.  It’s one thing to sit and read a book but to actually see the characters and hear the story is really a new adventure for the kids and us and so we are having a great time with this.”

The performances run every 10 minutes in the basement of the library from 5-7pm on Thursday, October 30th.  It is a free come-and-go event.  For more information, call the children’s department at 386-4415.
