Complete Guthrie County Mid-Term Results, Notes and Analysis

The unofficial results for Guthrie County are in, and much like they did State-wide, Republicans reigned supreme in the big races. Joni Ernst had nearly twice as many votes County wide as Bruce Braley, David Young nearly doubled-up Staci Appel, and Governor Branstad more than doubled the number of votes received by Jack Hatch for Governor. Republicans got the most votes in Guthrie County in the other state office elections as well, with the county preferring Paul Pate at Secretary of State, Mary Mosiman at Auditor, Sam Clovis at Treasurer and Bill Northey at Secretary of Ag, the only exception to the rule was Guthrie Countians voting for Democrat incumbent AG Tom Miller, more than they did for the Republican challenger, Adam Gregg. Looking at some of the key contested local races, Clel Baudler, a native of Adair County and the Republican incumbent had approximately a thousand more votes than his Democratic challenger Steve Roe, of Panora. More Republican domination at the County level as Clifford Carney beat Kerry Sheeder in the 2nd District Supervisors race, and Everett Grasty took down Kathy Miller in the third district.
