2nd Daisy Award WinnerThe second recipient of the DAISY Award was announced at a public ceremony at Greene County Medical Center on Thursday.

The award was given to 20-plus year veteran nurse, Laine Custer with public health.  The DAISY Award honors a nominated nurse who shows extraordinary patient care.  It is in remembrance of J. Patrick Barnes who died of a rare blood disorder in 1999.  Barnes’s family wanted to show their gratitude to the nursing staff that treated him.

Fellow nurse Jenny Taylor was the first DAISY Award winner for the medical center in August and she announced Custer as the second such recipient.

Custer said she’s very appreciative to receive this kind of honor.

“It’s very humbling.  I know how many great nurses there are and I think they should all be recognized, but you know, nurses do it because taking care of people and they get that reward when they take care of them.  I appreciate it very much, but we just know it’s a lot of teamwork, a lot of people helping out.”
