ADM senior wide receiver Jake Sloss was named to the Iowa Newspaper Association’s 2014 Class 3A All-State First Team on Tuesday.
Sloss set a single-season school record and finished second in Class 3A with 1,002 receiving yards on 55 catches and 11 touchdowns. He also made 33.5 tackles as a starting safety.
The Tigers had their team banquet on Sunday, and naturally, Sloss was named team’s offensive MVP. His twin brother, Joe, was named co-defensive MVP after finishing with five interceptions and 57.5 tackles at the other safety position. Senior linebacker Zach Ostendorf, who was second on the team with 62.5 tackles and registered 1 solo tackle for loss, was named the other defensive MVP.
Senior center Elijah McCartney was named Most Improved on offense, while senior outside linebacker Jesse Huen, who notched 47 tackles, one tackle for loss and one sack, earned the award on defense.
Junior quarterback Frank Weiland was named the best offensive newcomer. The first-year varsity starter threw for 2,515 yards, third-most in the class, while completing 57.6 percent of his passes with 19 touchdowns and 18 interceptions. Sophomore corner David Howard was named the best defensive newcomer.
