The Adel De Soto Minburn Community School District has submitted their application to participate in the Teacher Leadership and Compensation System.
The TLC program was a major part of the 2013 education reform package passed by the state legislature. It gives effective teachers the opportunity to lead their peers while earning higher pay through a mentorship type program. The goal is to improve instruction in schools and foster collaboration between teachers. All districts in Iowa need to implement this system by the 2016-2017 school year.
ADM Superintendent Greg Dufoe says more than 170 school districts in the state have applied for these grant funds to be used during the 2015-2016 school year. Last year more than 130 districts submitted their applications to implement the system during this first round of the program, and only 39 were selected.
The amount of grant money each district receives is based on enrollment. ADM is expected to receive around $450,000 in addition to their regular education funding for this system.
Dufoe says they are very excited about their plan, which came together through several months of intense planning between teachers, parents and administrators.
The district’s grant is expected to be reviewed in the coming weeks.
