The Iowa Newspaper Association has released its 2014 All-State football teams, and the Iowa Girls Coaches Association has released its All-District and All-State volleyball selections.

Greene County High School senior Joe Doran was named to the Class 3A second All-State team in football. The middle linebacker was second in 3A in total tackles per game (solo and assisted tackles combined). The 6’0″, 210 lb. senior also was the team punter and played offense on occasion. Doran was named team MVP and team Defensive Player of the Year. Greene County head coach Dean Lansman said Doran was the best middle linebacker he’s coached, and that covers 19 years of coaching high school football, and defense in particular. The Rams were 4-6 overall and placed third in 3A District 2 2 with a 4-2 record.

Paton-Churdan High School junior Sydney Koch was named to the volleyball 1A West Central District team. Koch was one of 12 players from this part of the state named to the unit. She led the Rockets in kills per set at 4.07, kill efficiency 0.188, kills (228), attack attempts (607), ace serves (37), and aces per set (0.66). The Rockets were 4-16 on the season.
