The Greene County ISU Extension office is offering two pesticide applicator training sessions this month.
Extension Coordinator Lori Mannel says a continuing instructional course for commercial pesticide applicators can take a Pest Control Operators course later this week.
The workshop will cover topics like the effects of pesticides on groundwater and other non-target sites, effective bed bug and termite treatments, new and efficient cockroach and rodent control and application techniques that will limit human exposure. The program will also provide certification for categories 7A, 7B, 8 and 10.
It will be at the Extension office in Jefferson on Wednesday, December 3rd with registration to begin at 8:30am and the workshop will begin at 9am. You can pre-register with a $60 fee by tomorrow or pay $70 at the door the day of the workshop.
Then on Tuesday, December 16th at 1:30pm will be a private pesticide applicator recertification course held at the St. Joseph’s Parish Center in Jefferson.
Mannel stresses that this is only for those who need to be recertified to apply pesticides privately.
“I’ve been told that a lot of individuals that have done this know the program. They know they need to come in and go through the process and then they get a certification that shows that they’ve taken this class and that’s required to do that.”
She points out that they are asking for people to pre-register for that course because they will be offering a free lunch due to a Farm Bill discussion taking place beforehand. There is also a $20 fee.
Call the Extension office at 386-2138 for register for either pesticide workshop.
