Greene County SheriffThe Greene County Sheriff’s office recently released their figures from the latest Special Traffic Enforcement Program from the Iowa Governor’s Traffic Safety Bureau.

Deputy Dave Kersey says from November 24th through November 30th, they issued nine citations and 16 warnings to motorists.

Seven citations were given for speeding along with one for failure to obey stop sign and one for not having proper insurance.  There were 12 warnings written for speeding, two for seatbelt violations and one each for an equipment violation and not having proper insurance.

Kersey notes that they also covered two vehicle accidents that had property damage.  The Sheriff’s office also conducts a pre- and post-seat belt survey.  Kersey comments that they’ll sit in two random spots in the county and out of 100 vehicles, they’ll check to see if the occupants are wearing their seat belts.

He reports that only 84% of motorists wore their seat belts during the pre-survey and the numbers went up to 94% for the post-seat belt survey.

Last year, deputies issued 14 citations and 33 warnings during the Thanksgiving holiday sTEP Wave.
