2014 Greene County SupervisorsThe Greene County Board of Supervisors met yesterday in regular session.

During the open forum, Greene County Chamber President Ben Yoder addressed the Board about the welcome center.  He requested from the Board to write a letter of support for it.  Vice-Chair Guy Richardson said it was something needed for the county and he anticipated that the Chamber may come back for a funding request later for the project.  The Board didn’t take action on the request.

The Board also heard from Bob Ausberger with the Lincoln Highway Association.  He asked the Board about the progress of establishing signs at the Interpretive Site that’s east of Grand Junction.  Chair John Muir said they haven’t done their part to get that task completed, but that they are going to look into it.  Ausberger also mentioned that a representative with Prairie Rivers Resources, Conservation and Development is coming to Grand Junction about the site and a representative with the Department of Transportation about putting designs into the overpass bridge to incorporate the Lincoln Highway in the 2018 project.  The topic will be added to next week’s agenda.

The Board continued to receive funding requests from organizations for the 2016 fiscal year budget.  Scranton Congregate Meals requested $1,500, RSVP 55+ asked for $2,000, Greene County Development Corporation requested $47,000 and Habitat for Humanity asked for $5,000.  The Board took no action on any of the funding requests.

The Board approved to hire Jeana Keller as a part time jailer for the Sheriff’s office at $14 per hour salary until she is certificated and then will be paid $15 per hour.  The Board also approved a fireworks request for Diane Wise and the County Treasurer’s investments of $4,594,977.98 and 216 driver’s licenses were issued in November.

County Engineer Wade Weiss talked about trying to increase the road use/gas tax.  He said with all the improvements to the farming industry, the county roads have been left behind and so he’s hopeful that the gas tax will be increased during the early part of the upcoming legislative session.
