Greene County placed third among nine teams in the Tiger-Knight wrestling invitational on Saturday at Carroll High. Coach Mark Sawhill’s Rams won a pair of individual titles from Class 2A fifth ranked Jordan Challen (138) and tenth rated Abe Yoder (132), while Isaiah Yoder (160) and Keyden Pollock (182) were runners-up. The Rams entered 11 of the 14 weight classes. They are open at 113 and 152, and Greene County was also without two-time state tournament qualifier Tommy Bradshaw (145), who is expected to return in early January after an ankle injury. This tournament was the final December competition for the Rams.

Other place winners for the Rams were: third place- 106 Kane Borgeson; fourth place- 195 Hunter Ruth; fifth place- 285 George Zito; sixth place- 120 Isaac Ireland, 126 Charles Gunn, 170 Mark Kendall.

The 138 title match featured former teammates squaring off to face each other when Challen pinned Guthrie Center sophomore Logan Scheuermann in 5:58. Scheuermann won the 126 lbs. title at the 2013 Tiger-Knight for Greene County, but now attends Guthrie Center. Logan’s older brother, Jeremy, was a two-time state tournament qualifier for the Rams, and graduated in May 2014.

Abe Yoder won the rubber match with James Dirkx of Carroll in claiming his second invitational title this season in as many tries. Yoder lost to Dirkx in the first week of the season, but that’s his only loss and he also defeated the Tiger on Dec. 13 at the Ogden dual meet tournament.

Pocahontas Area won the team title with 153 points, followed by Carroll 141, Greene County 136.5, Bondurant-Farrar 132, Kuemper Catholic 114, Denison-Schleswig 106, Guthrie Center 103.5, Manson-Northwest Webster 92.5, and Exira/Elk Horn-Kimballton 74.5.
