On Monday, we got our first big snowfall of the year, and people on all kinds of roads, all around the Raccoon River Valley either broke down on the side of the road, or slid into ditches. Guthrie and Adair County Emergency Management Coordinator Bob Kempf has tips on what to carry in your car in case you get stuck out in cold weather, “Everybody has got one window scraper in their car, but how often have you broke that? Always have an extra with you. Possibly, if you’re going on a longer trip, bring some bottled water and snacks. Like they always say, a sack of kitty litter or sand in the trunk and to toss on snow or ice if you get stuck is always a good plan.”
Kempf also encourages having a bright or neon piece of cloth to tie to your antenna in case you do get stuck.
