With a tough 66-63 loss at home to Perry on Tuesday night, the ADM boys basketball team fell to 1-3 against Raccoon River Conference opponents. The Tigers overall record of 1-7 is far from desirable, but in the grand scheme of things, ADM’s four non-conference losses don’t mean anything.
In fact, ADM has come up just a little bit short in two of their three conference losses, and in both cases, its been because of their offense. On Dec. 12 against Carroll, ADM limited its conference rival to nine points below its season average, but could must just 48 points in the 57-48 loss. In that game, the Tigers shot just 35 percent from the floor and just 18 percent on 3-pointers.
Against Perry the other night, ADM’s 63 points is the most they’ve scored in their previous six games. Still, the Tigers shot just 37 percent from the field and 29 percent on 3-pointers.
Sophomore guard Matt Larson recognizes that ADM is just a few adjustments away from a 3-1 record in conference play. A few more made shots and a few less turnovers, and ADM is right in the thick of the Raccoon River Conference race.
With that in mind, Larson said the Tigers believe they can play with anybody in the conference.
“I think so because even the conference games we [have] played, against Carroll, who is really good, we still played with them the whole game and we were never out of it,” Larson said. “I think that’s a big confidence booster saying that we can play with most of the other teams in the conference, too.”
Larson, the leading scorer for ADM, and the rest of the Tigers travel to Boone on Friday for a conference girls-boys doubleheader. Pregame coverage on K107 begins at 5:45 p.m.
