perry libraryReading is an important fundamental skill that is crucial for success in school, but the process of learning these skills starts much earlier than some of us may realize.

Perry Public Library Director Mary Murphy says pre-literacy is something that should be taught starting with infants.

“Pre-literacy is one of the key factors in success and when you go to kindergarten and first, and second, and third grade if you have this letter recognition down, this sound recognition down, it can make it such a better experience for your child” says Murphy.

The Wee Wonders Storytime at the Perry Public Library is designed to help with just that. Parents and their babies ages infant to 18 months are invited to participate each Thursday from 10:30-11:30am.  In addition to music, nursery rhymes and bubbles, parents will also have a chance to chat with their peers in the class as the babies play together.

The four week unit kicks off today and each family will receive a free board book to take home and add to the baby’s library.
