The Perry wrestling team went to 2-0 in Raccoon River Conference matches Thursday night after defeating Bondurant Farrar 49-26 at the Perry Sports Pavillion. The Bluejays won 9 of 14 bouts led by a stirring comeback from Jacob Thompson. Thompson trailed at one point by as many as five points but rallied to take the lead and secure a 3rd period pin. The Bluejays followed up with a 69-12 win over Van Meter in non conference action. The 69 points were a season high by the Perry wrestling team in a dual setting. Eight different Bluejays won both their matches with Gisaveri Niyibizi scoring 48 points in his two combined matches. Returning state qualifier Kade Van Kirk picked up a couple of falls as did Augusto Jata and Zach Thompson. Tyler Soll won both of his matches by forfeit and Gabe Condie picked up his 3rd and 4th wins of the season at 220 pounds.
“I was really happy for Gabe. He has been working hard in practice and just continues to hang in there and he was rewarded tonight,” added Trevor Kittleson. Ivan Garcia also picked up a couple of victories for Perry. The Bluejays suffered a couple of injuries on the night with freshman Austin Hay injuring his shoulder in a match with Bondurant Farrar while Chase Monahan had to injury default out of a match that he was in control in against Van Meter. The status of both Bluejays was unknown after the match.
