It’s been a rough season for the girls and boys varsity Guthrie Center basketball teams as they have just a single win between them, that lone ‘W’ belonging to the boys, and each team added another loss last night at home to Woodward Granger. The Guthrie Center girls fall to 0-12, losing 29 to 45 to Woodward Granger last night, their leading scorer was freshman Mady Smith, she had 7. The now 1-9 Guthrie Center varsity boys lost to previously winless Woodward Granger by a score of 64-37, Woodward Granger is now 1-8. The leader scorer for the Guthrie Center boys was senior Jared Berger, he had 11. Guthrie Center boys basketball coach Zack Leeper talk about the team’s apparent loss of momentum after the first quarter of last night’s contest, “We just didn’t rebound very well. We gave up two or three uncontested threes, and they hit ’em. They had two offensive possessions where they had a total of nine offensive rebounds, so can’t give up second chance points like that, we gotta do a better job of boxing out and getting the rebound.”
Both the boys and girls Guthrie Center basketball teams will play again on Tuesday night, when they will host Madrid.
