A young woman from Guthrie Center will compete for the title of Iowa’s Pork Queen at the 2015 Iowa Pork Congress in Des Moines later this month. Emma Wilson, a 2014 graduate of Guthrie Center high school, and current Iowa State student is one of 9 girls from around the state vying to represent the Iowa Pork Producers Association as a member of its Youth Leadership Team. The contestants will be judged on their knowledge of Iowa’s pork and agriculture industries, as well as their communication skills, and presentation. The new queen, the runner up girl, known as the princess and the male winner, the youth ambassador, will travel around the region representing Iowa’s pork industry, as well as each receiving a four thousand dollar scholarship from the Iowa Pork Producers Association. The contest will be decided January 28th at the Veterans Memorial Convention Center in Des Moines.
