The Guthrie Center police department is looking into trading in their law enforcement equipped Chevy Silverado police truck for a new Chevy Tahoe police SUV, because as Police Chief Rod Pavelka has put it, he likes the added utility of the SUV. Even though the designated state bid dealership is Ankeny’s Karl Chevrolet, Pavelka is recommending the Council to do business with Pleasant Hill’s Deery Chevrolet, because he feels they have been better to work with, and because with an added $3500 trade-in on the Silverado, and $12,000 in dealer and government rebates, Pavelka believes the discussed price with Deery Chevrolet is plenty competitive. Pavelka told the City Council that he briefly considered a Ford Interceptor SUV, but prefers the Chevrolet, and believes it will depreciate less, and therefore provide a better value for the city. The City Council discussed the issue, and while no one disagreed with Pavelka’s recommendation, there was no action taken at the meeting regarding the trading in and purchasing of a new vehicle.
