The Perry Bluejay’s 5-0 first place start in the Raccoon River Conference is not a surprise to its most veteran player.  Senior point guard Will Whiton has been a part of the varsity program the past 4 years and has been a part of some season’s where the Jays tallied only single digit wins.  Tonight, Perry will look for victory number ten with a road trip to Bondurant Farrar.

“I’m not surprised at all with the way our team is playing,” added Whiton, who is averaging nearly double double numbers in points(14) and assists (9).  “We believe in Ned’s (Menke) philosophy and a lot of our guys have matured and have more experience and I think that is all showing.  We play an upbeat style where we like to get after the opposition and I think all of our guys are buying into it.  It really can be a fun style to be a part of and a lot of fun to play in.”

The Bluejays saw their 8 game winning streak snapped Saturday at Roland Story and will look to get back the high scoring offense that propelled them early during the season.  The Bluejays won lower scoring affairs last week with Winterset and ADM before losing to Roland Story.

“Shooting is our biggest thing right now,” adds Whiton.  “Our team has improved so much on the offensive end and we have a lot of guys that can beat you.”

You can listen to Perry and Bondurant Farrar basketball tonight on KDLS beginning at 6:00 on AM 1310 KDLS.
