The Greene County Board of Supervisors met yesterday in regular session.
County Engineer Wade Weiss reported to the Supervisors that during the snow storm this past weekend, they had their snow plows out at 5am on Sunday. While the snow plows were clearing snow, one of them tipped over on a gravel road. The accident happened because the ditches were full of snow and visibility was low. Weiss said no one was hurt in the incident and MacDonald Insurance is taking care of it.
Next, Greene County Chamber Director Chris Henning introduced two visitors from Africa. Agricultural representatives Jean-Claude Nzamba from Gabon and Boukari Nougttarra from Berkina Faso, Africa wanted to learn about agricultural business in Iowa and about the cattle industry to take back to their business in west Africa.
The Board then approved the Emergency Management budget for the 2016 fiscal year. Emergency Management Coordinator Dennis Morlan requested $50,000 which the Board unanimously approved. Morlan was also named to the Greene County Local Emergency Commission and as primary contact to access the Statewide Emergency Notification and Emergency Messaging System. He reported that their ambulance service responded to 715 calls for service in 2014 and 100 of those calls were for non-transport. There were three vehicle fatalities in the County last year and Morlan was very pleased with the continued teamwork from the other emergency agencies and law enforcement in the area.
The meeting ended in a budget workshop.
